Practical Application
Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) mouldings are specifically designed and
intended for use only as a decorative ceiling crown molding. Damage
can occur if mouldings are subject to direct physical contact.
Product Reliability
All
EPS used in moulding fabrication is UL approved and has fire retardant
additives incorporated at the time of manufacture. Many
home furnishings and decorator materials such as wood, paper, cloth,
vinyl, etc., will ignite at much lower temperatures than EPS. Without
a source of energy EPS will self extinguish. It is the purchaser’s
responsibility to ensure that products conform to local building
codes.
Chemical Resolution
EPS is resistant to virtually all aqueous media, including dilute
acids and alkalis, water soluble alcohols and silicones. There is
limited resistance to paraffin oil, vegetable oils, diesel fuel and
Vaseline.
EPS must not be exposed to organic solvents such as hydrocarbons,
chlorinated hydrocarbons, ketones and esters. Note: If EPS is to
be placed in contact with materials or vapors of unknown composition,
tests should be made to determine compatibility.
Toxicity
Laboratory combustible product test indicate EPS is no more toxic
than wood and minimal ingestion is not considered harmful.
Bacterial Resistance
EPS without soilage will not support fungus and bacteria growth.
It
is also inert, odorless, non-irritating and non-corrosive.
Ozone Friendly
EPS contains no CFCs or HCFCs known to deplete the ozone layer.
